About me

Clare Burgess, Cognitive Hypnotherapist in Reading and Wokingham

Hypnotherapist Reading and Wokingham

I’m a fully qualified Cognitive Hypnotherapist and Master Practitioner in NLP having been trained by the internationally acclaimed Trevor Silvester of the Quest Institute London.

I’m also a fully qualified Confident Childbirth practitioner and before focusing on hypnotherapy full-time, I enjoyed teaching Daisy Birthing Active Birth and relaxation classes to small groups of women each week.

I understand it takes courage sometimes to contact a hypnotherapist and ask for help especially with personal issues. I fully respect your courage and so offer you a chance to chat with me before arranging to meet. I provide a confidential, friendly and compassionate hypnotherapy service.

Why I use the Cognitive Hypnotherapy approach to help people

I offer Cognitive Hypnotherapy in Reading and Wokingham because I’m passionate about helping people find happiness in their lives and realise their potential. I chose to train in Cognitive Hypnotherapy over other types of hypnotherapy as it’s so tailored, solution focused and client centric. This broad approach includes techniques and therapy methods from all different areas including NLP, Emotional Freedom Technique, Eye Movement Integration and positive psychology. As part of my work, I also regularly use Mindfulness practice, self-hypnosis and breathing techniques to help teach clients empowering relaxation techniques.

Over the last few years through my own personal experience, I’ve discovered how liberating and exciting it is to let go of limiting beliefs and anxiety. I feel privileged to now focus on helping others make the changes they need to live the life they want.

Whether you need help with anxiety, a phobia, public speaking or hypnobirthing, I offer a flexbile, gentle and effective way to achieve your goals.  My aim is to help you start to enjoy being you and build the future you really want in the shortest time possible for you.

My focus areas: anxiety issues: panic attacks, trauma and stress

I work with adults in Reading and Wokingham from all different backgrounds and for all types of reasons. One of my key focus areas though is helping people overcome and manage anxiety issues including trauma and depression. As stress and anxiety are on the increase in our society, I believe this is an important area to focus on.  Stress and anxiety not only get in the way of us enjoying our life but also have serious consequences for our health and can lead to depression or other mental health issues.

Personalised hypnobirthing

I’m also passionate about helping mums-to-be prepare for a positive birth experience and beyond. I offer a personalised hypnobirthing programme in Reading which includes hypnotherapy to overcome specific fears, hypnobirthing and active birth techniques for labour and birth. My Confident Childbirth programme is designed to help a mum enjoy her pregnancy, feel confident about the upcoming birth and be better prepared the post-natal period. (See here for more details about my hypnobirthing approach)

Learning to manage stress:

I spent over 13 years working in the corporate world and understand what it is like to be held back by anxiety, fear and limiting beliefs. I also know how much stress can affect every part of life including your health. I knew I needed to do something about the constant stress. I discovered the benefits of yoga, mindfulness and meditation. These gentle skills really helped me manage stress in my life.

My journey to discovering the power of hypnotherapy:

It was when I was pregnant with my second child that I discovered the power of hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis. I was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress from my first birth but thanks to learning how to let go of my previous experience through hypnobirthing I went on to have a wonderful homebirth experience. Learning about the power of the mind and how to access it through self-hypnosis was life changing.

My daughter’s beautiful birth was truly empowering. It also helped me changed my view of life and myself. I now focus much time to continuing to build my knowledge of the mind/body connection especially around birth, health and healing

Having these wonderful skills and experiences was like a gift as I realised I wanted a new career and share these amazing things with other people. That’s why I decided to become a hypnotherapist and qualify as an antenatal educator.

At first, I still didn’t have the courage to take the plunge and leave a secure, well paid corporate job to retrain and start my own business. It was during a NLP based training day that I discovered that if I really wanted something I had to find a way. The lesson I learnt was to be very clear about the goal and then break it down into really small steps. Focus and persistence with taking small steps was the key. The trainer, Nick Bates, said something that has stayed with me ever since. He said that we tend to live our lives thinking in an “either/or”. We don’t achieve our dreams because we make ourselves believe we need to choose. What if we start thinking in terms of ‘and’? Following that training I signed up to teach Daisy Birthing and then shortly after I signed up with the Quest Institute to train in Cognitive Hypnotherapy and NLP.

And here I am… loving what I do! I am continually amazed by my clients and learn something new each day
